Green River Ordinance - 12th and Porter Show Review

12th and Porter was the place to be last night in Nashville Tennessee as the band Green River Ordinance took to the stage to showcase their talents. The Texas based group has been out on tour for a short stint in support of their latest acoustic EP titled "The Morning Passenger". Last night I was one of the lucky few to be in attendance and I can tell you with all confidence that these guys packed more than just their acoustic instruments for the show. They plugged in a front line of four guitars and pushed their amps to the limit for the Music City crowd and really put on a great performance.

It was great for me to finally see the band play live because they have really put out some great music for my tastes. But as you would expect from any good band out there... they not only write and record good music, they play the HELL out of it! They all brought energy to the stage and encouraged crowd participation throughout the evening. Lead singer Josh Jenkins also offered insight to many of the groups songs as well as some of their Texas influences that make the band what it is. Before playing one of their newest songs "Dancing Shoes", he mentioned that in Texas they have a strong sense of community and that a lot of time was spent on the porch with family and friends which is what really inspired the song. And the attending Tennessee crowd got an up close and personal taste of that Texas culture as the band unplugged and moved their instruments to the center of the crowd for an acoustic performance of "Where the West Wind Blows" for their final song of the evening. Before doing so, Josh stated that they were going to play for everyone like they would if they were all sitting by the campfire. The house lights were dropped, the venue was dark, and the band played as flashing cameras and cell phones provided the flickering light of the proverbial campfire. A memorable ending to a very memorable performance.

If you haven't yet had the pleasure of following this group and their music there is some really good news for you newcomers. The band is doing a lot to reach new fans and to get themselves heard. First of all, in one of our previous posts we reviewed the group and shared a link to a free download of their latest LP titled "Out of My Hands" that is still available to download. They are also working on releasing a new album in the near future after raising funds on their Kickstarter page. In the meantime, the group has also released recordings of their favorite cover songs from some great classic rock groups that is really worth checking out. They not only cover the songs, they might just be the best option out there because some of the bands covered no longer tour. Last night they played "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac that flat out blew me away. See the links below for the free album download and to preview their cover songs. At the very least, make sure you give these guys a listen.

Great review! I've been following this band for several years (I think I've seen them 4x); love, love, love them! They are as genuine as their music; you'd be hard-pressed to find a more appreciative band anywhere. I highly recommend for everyone to go download their free music, give them a listen, and jump on the opportunity if they tour your area.
